Despite WB Games’ statements to the contrary, it seems that Monolith Productions’ Wonder Woman will not follow live service model as Warner Brothers were eager to claim as reported by Wccftech. Many people were worried that the DC Comics related game would follow a live service model after both Warner Brothers’ announcement that they were heading in that direction as a whole, as well as a job posting from Monolith Productions for the Wonder Woman game suggesting that live service elements may be present, also as Wccftech reported, but in an interview with IGN it seems that that won’t be the case.
This will likely come as a relief to everyone who was understandably exercising caution with regards to any WB Games release coming up, even mega fans of the iconic DC heroine. Especially since, on the topic of DC Comics, Rocksteady Studios’ Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League which also falls under the Warner Bros. banner is very transparently going to have live service elements, as will practically all other games that Warner Brothers produce going forward if they stick to their claims during their 2023 Q3 earning call.
But it seems, for now, Wonder Woman will have the luck of being a single player experience as Warner Brothers tries to dip its toes into the liver service model. “Wonder Woman is a single-player action-adventure game set in a dynamic open-world. This third person experience will allow players to become Diana of Themyscira and introduce an original story set in the DC Universe, while also featuring the Nemesis System. Wonder Woman is not being designed as a live service,” to quote a WB spokesperson as they responded to IGN.
While that definitely doesn’t rule out a plethora of other practices the gaming community finds abhorrent such as microtransactions or cut content shipped as DLC, it does at least give hope that Wonder Woman will be a complete and satisfying experience on the day it releases, if only we could hold that same hope for future releases from under WB Games.
