Watch Dogs Sales Set Records for Ubisoft

Ubisofts’s Watch Dogs sold 4 million copies after a week of being available since last Tuesday. This marks a milestone for the company in terms of sales for its new franchise. This also marks the record of best sales in a week and broke 24-hour sales records for the company. Also, the game is the best selling new franchise as of today.

Tony Key, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Ubisoft, said “Watch Dogs has positioned itself as the must-have game of the moment.” His statement comes from their website announcing the company’s sales news.

“We’re really proud of this achievement,” he said. “[Ubisoft is] confident that the Watch Dogs brand has a promising future.”

Gamespot reports that these sales place the game into a position to pass Ubisoft’s original Assassin’s Creed lifetime sales. Assassin’s Creed managed to push its sales into the 6 million mark. That game was released in 2007 and has seen 3 sequels and several spin-offs.

It is possible that Watch Dogs success might follow the same path with its first week sales. Opportunities of forming a universe similar to Assassin’s Creed are clearly not out of the question for the developer. Originally the game was suppose to release last year and news defiantly was a disappointment for fans eager to play a game first shown at E3 2012. The anticipation looks to have paid off for fans and Ubisoft. Watch Dogs was well received by critics upon its availability. And it is seeing these sales despite some PC issues and Uplay problems.

Watch Dogs is avalible for the Xbox, Xbox One, PS3, PS4 and PC. The game is expected to be on the Nintendo Wii U sometime later this year for Fall 2014.
