Earlier today, Warner Bros. announced a new Harry Potter video game via Twitter named, Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions. In this tweet, Warner Bros. also revealed that they would be having a limited playtest, with sign ups available through the tweet. This limited playtest would be available from April 21-22, with the full game’s release date remaining undisclosed as of now.
Alongside the twitter announcement came a new website devoted to the upcoming Harry Potter game. This website goes in a bit more detail about what people can expect from the game through their FAQ. Published by Portkey Games and developed by Unbroken Studios, Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions will be an online, competitive multiplayer game where the players will play the iconic magical sport, which will be available for PC and consoles, though which consoles have not been confirmed yet. The game will not be tied in with the lore of the books, working as its own standalone project.
With all of this being said, it is also important to note that this game is coming off of the heels of Hogwarts Legacy, game that, while highly profitable, stirred up large amounts of controversy due to J.K. Rowling’s openly transphobic on Twitter. With this game following so closely after, it is unknown whether this game will get the same treatment. Both games were developed by the same producers and both seem to have the support of J.K. Rowling herself. While neither game has direct input from the Harry Potter author, audiences stood against Hogwarts Legacy as a stance against Rowling according to Gamerant. There is very little to say that these reasons do not apply to the new Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, but it is still too early to get a collective judgment on how people will view the new Harry Potter game.
