The Warhammer Skulls 2022 festival began on Jun 1 with a showcase full of new games, updates, and trailers for fans of the Warhammer universe to sink their teeth into. The second annual event held by Games Workshop included announcements from notable Warhammer game developers like Fatshark, Focus Entertainment, and Creative Assembly.
Focus Entertainment provided fans with a first look into Warhammer 40K: Boltgun, 90s retro-style FPS that pits the player, an Imperium space marine, against hordes of Chaos faction enemies ready to be gibbed and splattered. For those who prefer their gore in third person, Focus Entertainment also released a new behind-the-scenes trailer for Warhammer 40K: Space Marine II, the sequel to the beloved 2011 title of the same name.
Cyprus-based developer Owlcat Games provided Skulls with their animated trailer for the first-ever Warhammer 40K traditional RPG: Rogue Trader. Although little was revealed outside of few seconds of in-game footage, the game is now available for pre-order. Everguild announced their new Warhammer 40K game as well: Warpforge, a digital card game á la Hearthstone.
Fatshark led the showcase with a brand-new trailer for the upcoming Warhammer 40K: Darktide, PvE horde FPS in the same vein as the Vermintide games, which will be out on Sept 13. As criminals in the Warhammer 40K universe, players will be tasked with clearing out the most undesirable threats within Tertium Hive using a mix of melee and ranged weapons. Not ones to leave out loyal fans of Vermintide II, however, Fatshark also revealed that the game would be receiving a free content update to its Chaos Wastes mode – the Be’lakor Chaos Wastes Expansion – on June 14.
Among the major game reveals and trailers were a number of other announcements from notable Warhammer games. Creative Assembly and NACON invited viewers to join the open beta phase of their games, Total War: Warhammer 3 – Immortal Empires and Blood Bowl 3, respectively. Rougeside’s Ork sidescroller Shootas, Blood & Teef got a chaotic new gameplay trailer and release date of Oct 20 for all platforms, and NeocoreGames’ Inquisitor – Martyr will be getting an enhanced PS5 and Xbox Series X/S port later in the year.
To top things off, Games Workshop announced a massive Steam sale on Warhammer games, with discounts of up to 90% on certain ones. The sale will run through the end of Skulls on June 8.
