Focus Entertainment recently announced that Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 has reached an impressive milestone, attracting five million players less than three months after its September 9th release. This news came via a post on social media platform X, though it’s worth noting that the figure likely includes players streaming the game through subscription services like GeForce Now rather than solely reflecting sales.
Five million players mark a strong start for the game, affirming its success and preserving the legacy of the original Space Marine developer, Relic Entertainment, which recently became independent. Developed by Focus and Saber Interactive, Space Marine 2 continues the franchise’s tradition of blending lore-rich storytelling with intense combat.
Initially revealed at the 2021 Game Awards alongside titles like Slitterhead and Alan Wake 2, Space Marine 2 brings back Captain Titus, the protagonist from the original game. Titus battles Tyranids and Chaos Space Marines this time instead of the greenskin hordes. The story explores Titus’ redemption arc; after facing disgrace following the first game’s events, he is reinstated into the Ultramarines chapter to lead an extermination mission against a Tyranid infestation on the planet Kadaku.
Space Marine 2’s gameplay builds on its predecessor’s third-person action, offering a dynamic mix of ranged and melee combat. Players can wield iconic Warhammer weapons, including bolters, chain swords, and explosive devices, delivering fast-paced and visceral battles. The game features a robust single-player campaign, playable solo or in co-op, alongside a co-op Operations mission mode and PvP multiplayer. Notably, Focus and Saber have committed to providing free updates, ensuring that new content will not include microtransactions.
For fans of the franchise, Space Marine 2 is available now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It offers an experience that celebrates the lore of the Warhammer universe while delivering engaging gameplay. Captain Titus’ latest adventure aims to honor the legacy of his first outing and the universe’s rich narrative tapestry, providing a thrilling addition to the series.
