Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is celebrating its first anniversary with its largest update yet, now available for free on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Publisher Focus Entertainment and developer Saber Interactive released the Anniversary Update today, adding new game modes, maps, weapons, enemies, and a wealth of quality-of-life features. The update also coincides with the launch of Season Pass II, which introduces a variety of Chapter-inspired cosmetics, according to a press release.
The free content drop includes the new “Vortex” Operation, which features the terrifying Mutalith Vortex Beast as its centerpiece. PvP receives a new arena called “Bridge” set on Avarax, while PvE expands with “Stratagems,” a mode built around daily and weekly gameplay modifiers. Another addition is “Helbrute Onslaught,” a PvP mode that lets players control a Helbrute for the first time.
The Anniversary Update also delivers three new weapons, the Pyreblaster, Pyrecannon, and Power Axe, as well as several variants, including the Xenophase Blade, Combi Melta, and a double-edged Chainsword. A new enemy, the Chaos Spawn, comes in three different forms, while six unique Chaos Champion skins can now be unlocked in Eternal War mode. Customization options have also been expanded, allowing Champion skins to be applied as multiple cosmetics across different classes.
Alongside the free update, Saber and Focus are launching the game’s second Season Pass. The first two premium DLCs are the Black Templars Champion Pack, which includes a new Champion skin for the Bulwark class and a Power Sword skin, and the Imperial Fists Cosmetic Pack, which contains over 40 cosmetics and heraldry markings from seven of the Imperial Fists’ Successor Chapters.
To mark the occasion, new editions of Space Marine 2 are now available. The brand-new 2-Year Anniversary Edition bundles the base game with both Season Passes. The Gold Edition has been renamed the 1-Year Anniversary Edition and continues to include the base game and Season Pass I. For players who missed it, the Ultramarines Champion Pack can now be purchased separately, adding a Champion skin for the Heavy class and a unique Heavy Bolter skin.
The Anniversary Update arrives during the Focus Publisher Weekend, with discounts of up to 50 percent on Steam. This marks the best pricing for Space Marine 2 to date, with the standard edition now available for as low as $34.99 during the sale. The new content being added is showcased in their newest trailer.
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with the Anniversary Update free for all players.
