From one of the publishers of Stardew Valley, Chucklefish, comes Wargroove. This game is set to release in the first quarter of 2019, with many believing it could be as exact as the month of March. A gameplay trailer was revealed by Chucklefish a couple of weeks ago that shows off the mechanics of the turn-based strategy game. Check it out here:
Wargroove can include up to four players, each controlling an army and its powerful commander. While there is a campaign mode available to delve into, players can battle it out locally or online in multiplayer modes. The modes that will be available at launch include: an Arcade Mode that puts characters against five opponents quickly, Online skirmish battles, and a Puzzle Mode that will incorporate challenges to win a turn. However, the more than one dozen commanders from the factions can only be unlocked by progressing through the Story Mode. Each commander will have a special ability called a “groove” that is unique and can turn the tide of a battle. These special abilities range from healing to summoning to manipulating the battlefield’s terrain.
The campaign will center primarily on a new Queen in the world and the journey that she must embark on in her young age. This single player adventure has over fifty hours of content. Players will have the choice to join the forces of four warring factions: the Cherrystone Kingdom, the Heavensong Empire, the Felheim Legion, and the Floran Tribes.
The game will have modding capabilities and should be a treat, “creating the most complete experience for Advance Wars and [turn-based strategy] fans.” The animated pixel art style is something familiar to Chucklefish and the creativity is now also in the hands of the players. Wargroove will allow players to create their own maps and stories, then share their creation with others. Players will also be able to download others’ maps and campaigns if they catch their eyes.
Wargroove will be coming to the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
