Some groundbreaking new announcements about Warframe were made at this year’s TennoCon, the annual convention held by developer Digital Extremes about all things Warframe. Chief among this year’s reveals was the announcement of the upcoming “Plains of Eidolon” expansion for the game, which will introduce tons of new features to the game, including an all-new explorable landscape populated with both familiar and brand new creatures, enemies, a new Warframe, a dynamic day/night cycle, and a new storyline told through interactive NPCs in the new scavenger city of Cetus.
In Warframe, players control a race of ancient warriors called the Tenno, hence TennoCon. In the new expansion, the Tenno will be able to move out of the relatively-constricted spaces of previous Warframe missions, to explore some much more expansive scenery. On the expansion, Warframe creative director Steve Sinclair says:
We have announced big things for Warframe at TennoCon before but nothing like this. Adding Landscapes is a huge leap that we’ve been working on for some time…Plains of Eidolon is our first step in adding a new kind of player freedom to the game. We wanted to give our players something new, something dramatic, and that meant taking risks and evolving the game in a fresh, new direction.
In addition to the new expansive Landscapes, Plains of Eidolon will also allow players to use Archwing to soar over the new environments, an ability that was previously limited to use solely in underwater or space settings. There will also be all new customization options, for players to modify their Warframe setup “like never before”.
