The much anticipated Tennocon 2022 has come and went, and Warframe fans from around the world all tuned in to see what Digital Extremes had in store for their game. While the developer did offer some updates to their free-to-play title, they shocked their audience when they revealed something else, brand new game. Dubbed, Soulframe, the title is a “free-to-play action hybrid-MMORPG” and is actually a joint effort with Airship Syndicate and Digital Extreme, with the former being the actual owner of the IP. The developers have also dubbed this game “the mirror universe version of Warframe.”
Airship Syndicate has also worked on other well-known RPG titles such as Battle Chasers: Nightwar, Darksiders Genesis, and the single-player spin-off Ruined King: A League of Legends Story. Steve Sinclair, the Director of Warframe, will be stepping down from his role in order to assist with Soulframe’s development, which as of this writing, is still very early on. We did get a nice cinematic trailer though, which showcases a combination of both a sci-fi fantasy and a traditional one. The art style alone is already being compared to that of famous Japanese animated film Princess Mononoke, created by the legendary Hayao Miyazaki.
Digital Extremes also reiterated their never-ending commitment to the Warframe IP, which has been going strong for nearly a decade, an amazing feat, especially in today’s video game market. The game was given several new updates and reveals, all of which can be seen here. Soulframe was not given a release date, or any sort of a release time frame, but given that the project is still in the early stages of development, it’s more than likely going to be a while until we hear more about this one.
