Today, Blizzard Entertainment has announced that they are going to be rereleasing “the real-time strategy classics that started it all-Warcraft: Orcs & Humans and Warcraft II Battle.net Edition.” This is in anticipation of the 25th anniversary of Warcraft. Blizzard has partnered with GOG.COM and it is exclusive to their platform. They are both available today, digital and DRM-free for the first time ever.
In addition to both games, the original Tides of Darkness and the Beyond the Dark Portal expansion for Warcraft II will be available. Warcraft: Orcs & Humans is all about the original battle for Azeroth. Players will pick a side and raise an army of either humans or orcs. “Warcraft II and its expansions take the battle to the high seas with a host of naval units.” It also introduces more of the races that make up both the Alliance and the Horde such as elves, trolls, dwarves, and more.
Blizzard says that “this version of Warcraft: Orcs & Humans available on GOG.COM has been fully optimized to run out-of-the-box on today’s operating systems.” Warcraft II on GOG.COM will have two versions that players can choose from. One version has been updated to support high-resolution displays and multiplayer through LAN connections, and the other version is more of a classic experience that has “the original SVGA graphics, and matchmaking through the classic version of the Battle.net online-gaming service.”
Warcraft: Orcs & Humans costs $5.99. Warcraft II Battle.net Edition costs $9.99. You can get both games when you purchase the Warcraft Bundle which costs $14.99.
This isn’t the only thing that will be coming in celebration of the 25th anniversary of Warcraft. At the last Blizzcon, Blizzard announced a number of things related to Warcraft. World of Warcraft Classic got a release date, new content was revealed for World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth, and Warcraft III Reforged was announced which is a remaster of Warcraft III complete with new art designs.
