On May 30th, Gaijin Studios opened the dev server featuring the major update, “Leviathans”, for their major game, War Thunder. The test server unveils a number of new vehicles, weapons, locations, and other changes that will remain accessible until June 9th, according to the official forum. The official trailer for ‘Leviathans’ seems to showcase a number of the new vehicles in dramatic fashion, accompanied by the song “Tatake” by Alibi music.
In a separate forum post, the flagship of the update, Yamato, received its own short clip. Gaijin have dubbed Yamato: “The Decisive Spirit, and Ultimate Leviathan”. The battleship is set to release in the Japan line at Rank VII, featuring a 460mm main gun, thick armor, over 150 anti-aircraft guns, but sluggish mobility.
Dev server changelogs were released the same day, detailing all of the new content and known bugs. A number of new aircraft were added for Germany, USSR, Japan, and France for a total of 10 aircraft, with 5 of them being aircraft from Switzerland, though under the Germany group. A total of twenty-seven new ground vehicles were added, including those in packs for the countries of the USA, Germany, the USSR, Great Britain, Japan, China, Italy, France, Sweden, and Israel. Three helicopters were added: the RAH-66(Pack) and UH-1B for the USA, and the Z-10 for China. Naval fleet vehicles have also been added for the USA, Germany, USSR, Great Britain, Japan, Italy, and France, totaling 9 new naval vehicles.
The immense update also includes a number of new locations and missions. The “Berlin” and “Kuban” locations have both received new assets, effects, and touchups, with the Kuban location even receiving mission updates. Previous operations such as the Golan Heights, the Southeastern City, and the city have been updated for Air Realistic Battles, with aircraft carriers being added for both teams along with several quality of life changes according to community feedback.
A few new game mechanics have been added as well, the Multi-Vehicle SAM system and fuel dumping mechanic. The Multi-Vehicle SAM system includes the ability to control a radar vehicle throughout the battle, though the entire SAM system is considered lost if the radar vehicle is destroyed. The fuel dumping system allows for dumped fuel to be ignited with an afterburner flame to produce its own IR signature, available for the plane F-111A.
Along with the new content, extensive changes and bug patches were released for Ground vehicles, aircraft, and helicopters, and naval fleet vehicles. Changes to graphics, sound, interface, customization, economy, and research have also been implemented.
