Developers Blue Manchu had first revealed that they would be creating their next title Void Bastards at XO18 back in November. It was stated to be inspired by both Bioshock and System Shock 2. Which makes sense when it’s known that Blue Manchu was originally founded by Jon Chey, who had worked on System Shock 2 at Looking Glass. But the comic-book 2D-3D combo’d style created something somewhat campy and unique to the game. And just recently, Blue Manchu showed off the release trailer for Void Bastards:
Void Bastards is a procedurally generated game where the goal is to raid other spaceships of their materials, money, weapons, and all that jazz. To help on these raids, the player gets an endless supply of prisoners at their disposal. Each prisoner has their own set of skills and unique traits, and can carry their own in a fight. However, when on dies the crafting progress done with them is transferred to the next prisoner.
Now armed with this rag-tag group known as the “Void Bastards”, the player takes on the role of the Captain of them. As Captain, you try to lead your band of misfits out of the Sargasso Nebula, and in doing so raid a bunch of ships. Plot out your plan of attack through the halls of the ship first before heading in to execute that plan. There are plenty of nooks, crannies, tools, and terminals you can use to take care of any enemy that gets in the way.
Void Bastards is set to come out for Xbox One and PC (on Steam and Humble Bundle) on May 29, 2019.
