Video Game Tie-Ins Are Back And It Starts with Garfield

In the past few years, it has been observed that there are fewer video games being made based on popular movies. This fact is quite surprising, considering the huge profits that movie franchises are generating these days. It seems logical to create a game that is based on a popular movie franchise, especially taking into account the popularity of the franchise and its intellectual property. However, it appears that the trend of making video game tie-ins is making a comeback.

A plan has been created by a joint Sino-American fund called Stars-Hana. It consists of three companies in partnership: Stars Collective, Hana Investment, and Starlight Media. Their objective is to invest in various entertainment verticals over the next three years, which includes film, TV, comics, games, collectibles, consumer goods, AI, and new tech markets.

Multiple video games, which find their origins in the rich cinematic intellectual property of Stars Collective, are presently undergoing development.

As reported by Deadline, the Stars-Hana fund is actively creating video games derived from various projects helmed by industry luminaries such as James Wan, Sam Raimi, Roy Lee, and Jon M. Chu. This collaborative endeavor has also seen the involvement of Chinese company Tencent, alongside several other gaming entities, to contribute their expertise and resources in bringing these exciting titles to fruition.

According to reports, the new Garfield Movie is set to be one of the first games to be adapted, with the goal of increasing their popularity. At this point, a considerable lack of information exists regarding the Garfield video game, as crucial details pertaining to its plot, genre, supported platforms, and anticipated release window remain conspicuously absent from the public. All we know is that the movie stars Chris Pratt as the titular cat alongside Samuel L. Jackson, Hannah Waddingham, and Ving Rhames.

Pratt is well-versed in the world of video games, having contributed to several titles such as LEGO Dimensions, LEGO Jurassic World, The LEGO Movie Videogame, and Ben 10: Ultimate Alien Cosmic Destruction. Additionally, he played the role of Mario in The Super Mario Bros Movie.

Regarding Garfield, we’ll need to wait and see what Stars-Hana has planned. In recent times, Garfield has had various video games, such as Garfield Lasagna Party, a  food-themed party game on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
