Fuyu Corporation has announced that digital pre-purchase for their newest role-playing game, Varlet, is now available. The full game is set to release on August 28th across various platforms with a large amount of new content, according to a press release.

Varlet will be set in a high school known as Kousei Academy; however, the school has a strange mystique as the main character is able to hear the forlorn whispers of an alternate world. The main lead is a transfer student discovering another dimension called the Gltich, in which all their classmates have been turned into dangerous monsters. Suddenly, they’ll be thrust into the role of Student Support Service (SSS) member, fighting monsters to prevent the school from crumbling.

The game seems to promise a unique blend of combat and role-playing that reminds me of the Persona series of games, though the combat system seems distinctly different. The announcement trailer showcases unique, colorful character designs that seem to be bursting with life. Each NPC seems to be fleshed out with individual voice acting, which is accompanied by a strong backing soundtrack. Ominously, the trailer ends with “help” shouted in Japanese and a character wreathed in flames. 

The game will also be releasing a digital creative artbook, a collection of 80 pages worth of illustrations that showcase the beauty and emotional arcs of life at Kousei Academy. The art will be supported by a digital special album official soundtrack containing 53 tracks. The soundtracks have 13 vocal sounds, and 40 orogiincal back grounds tracks composed by wotaku, NILFRUITS, OSTER project, Yoshida Yasei, Tadano Kaeded/A4., Hitoshizuku, Yamasankakkei, KANON69, Daibakuhasin, and Tsukasa Masuko (Shin Megami Tensei). Furthermore, the game will release with a DLC containing two uniforms for the main character, the Monark School Uniform and the Caligula Effect 2 School Uniform.

Varlet will release this coming Fall on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and the Nintendo Switch at $59.99 USD. The Deluxe Digital edition is priced $79.99 USD, which includes a number of exclusive digital bonuses.
