Life is Strange developer DONTNOD Entertainment recently announced an accompanying web series for its upcoming RPG Vampyr, centered around different facets of the game’s development. The first episode of DONTNOD’s four-part series has been released, a five-minute segment called ‘Making Monsters.’ The video offers insight into the development team’s goals with Vampyr‘s narrative, and gives fans a look at world of the game.
Vampyr follows the exploits of doctor and newly-turned vampire Jonathan Reid, who has just returned to London followed World War I. “Of course, at this point he has no idea of what he has become. It is very interesting for us to present a character convinced science can explain everything, who suddenly becomes a supernatural creature himself,” narrative director Stephane Beauverger says. “In most video games, the rule is: you will become the strongest, you must survive, and you must kill. Scarcely do games confront the player about the fact they are killing individuals.”
Much of Vampyr‘s dilemmas will stem from that truth.”What fascinates us is to put players at the core of this duality,” Beauverger continues. “To say to them, ‘you are the predator, and you will meet people who will share with you their problems, their life, their friends, their worries, their concerns. It is you who will decide to spare them or not.'”
