Vampyr is Getting a Story Mode and a Hard Mode This Summer

Vampyr, the RPG centered around, you guessed it, vampires, launched back at the beginning of June, and its developer, DONTNOD Entertainment, is already announcing improvements and updates that will be coming to the game this summer. Alongside “a host of optimization tweaks,” Vampyr is getting two new games modes to adjust to the individual player’s gameplay preferences if they choose either Story Mode or Hard Mode.

Vampyr follows the exploits of Dr. Jonathan Reid, a newly-turned vampire in 1918, returning to London from war. The game itself contains a nice mixture of narrative and combat driven gameplay, as Dr. Reid navigates the different districts of London in order to find the source of its vampiric outbreak. The first of Vampyr‘s new modes is a Story Mode, which “places a greater focus on narrative,” which means players will be able to “experience Dr. Reid’s journey with less challenging combat.” For both beginners, or people who really just want the plot without worrying about a death in combat, Story Mode will no doubt make the game easier to explore and enjoy without the stress of an upcoming battle.

On the flip side, Vampyr is also getting a Hard mode, which Focus Home says is a “cranked-up, more challenging” mode that will make the game’s combat significantly more difficult. “Players will receive less experience from killing enemies too, forcing them to rely even more on embracing citizens to grow in power,” the publisher added. If combat is your strong suit, replaying Vampyr on Hard Mode will definitely be a challenge worth visiting.

Ahead of the update’s release and through July 30, Focus Home has also announced that the game is 25% off on SteamVampyr is available to play now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. You can check out the game on its website, here.

In my free time, I function as an unnecessarily specific gaming encyclopedia. I also play the violin, binge crime/detective procedural shows (still not sure why), and do a large amount of digital painting. I'm probably too attached to Dragon Age, but not really inclined to do anything about it. I'm a huge fan of cosplay, foxes, the prose of Jenny Lawson, and Strong Female Characters™.
