The power of social media can never be underestimated, especially when you’re an indie developer with a dream of making your first game and trying to get noticed. Luckily for Ian Fisch, developer of indie game KingMakers, the internet Gods have smiled on him and the trailer of his game immediately went viral, with many flabbergasted once the trailer hit its stride at the 20-second mark.
The trailer owes its insane reception to the sheer concept of the game itself. The trailer opens with what many would assume to be a typical war game a la Total War or the like… before the main character teleports into the medieval age in a pickup truck, running over grunts before blasting armored knights with an assault rifle and grenades. Eventually leading into a helicopter carpet bombing a field of peasants.
The concept is just something that many people don’t expect, and the novelty of the situation is the reason many people flocked to this trailer. Just the idea of mowing down entire cavalries with machine guns is a fun idea, and one that not many games actualize effectively.
But the concept isn’t the only thing the trailer showed, the gameplay also looks incredibly fun. As expected of the initial impression the trailer gave off, KingMakers does seem to have an element of war games in it, with city building and army management from what we could see. Though it does seem like the bulk of the gameplay will take place in third person, with the main character zipping between timelines to bring modern weaponry to the past in an effort to save the future.
If this trailer has caught your attention then be sure to wishlist KingMakers on Steam, with a release date set sometime this year this will surely be a soulful experience for everyone to enjoy.
