Forbidden Forgiveness is an upcoming psychological horror game which showcases time travel, multiple dimensions, and various endings to correspond to the choices of the players. From developer GeekyMouse, the first-person horror mechanics aim to play with the minds of players.
The players gain autonomy through the guarantee that their choices matter, and the excitement that comes with the knowledge that the experience will vary from person to person. The game urges players to make decisions of whether or not NPCs they encounter are benevolent or evil, adding to the varied experience players may have depending on personal perspective. The malevolent force which controls the progression of the game is called Unknown, and contains unpredictable attack patterns. Players are able to defend themselves through solving puzzles, evading, and beating the eventual boss fight. Combat is dealt through solving puzzles correctly, and penalizes players for incorrect solutions.
The trailer features a macabre, desolate setting which frames the intensity of the horror elements. From long corridors to statues featuring humans who fall somewhere in the uncanny valley, the terror which imbues the trailer appears on par with what true horror fans expect.
Forbidden Forgiveness is currently set to be released on Steam, PS4, and Xbox One. While there is no official date set, the developers estimate a full release in late 2018. This is the first title to be released by the indie developers, but already shows the promise of exhilarating horror elements mixed with cerebral puzzle mechanics.
