One of the most critically acclaimed indie games of recent years is Until Then, a Philippine-inspired narrative adventure which followed the experience of high schoolers in the wake of great changes. While a compelling narrative is less likely than an average game to receive additional content, the developers at Polychoma Games surprised fans with the announcement of the game’s first DLC, titled Afterimages. The announcement came with an accompanying trailer, showing off some of the new features included.
The original release of Until Then was broken up into chapter, creating milestones between the big narrative events. The new DLC will add two additional chapters to the game. While details about the exact story the new chapters will tell is still unknown, the trailer description does mention that Sofia will be returning home, and Mark will meet a new lover. The trailer also mentions that the individual journeys of these characters will service the theme of carrying on through absence, another key aspect of growing up. The main event of the trailer is a massive concert, notable for the expressions of the characters over any music.
In addition to the promised narrative additions, the DLC will include additional minigames also shown off in the trailer. Minigames are the other core feature of Until Then, acting as activities for the main characters to grow closer and create memories together. These include tarot, baking, and more. Players will also have the chance to use phone apps for dating and video content, introducing new profiles will a picture and short description.
The story of Until Then emotionally resonated with many fans. From the tone of the announcement trailer, the new DLC is gearing up to do the same. An announcement on the game’s Steam store page indicates that the team can’t share a release date yet, but that the new DLC will be available for both console and PC versions of the game.
