Another large video game developer has been hit with layoffs. UK-based independent developer Supermassive Games made the unfortunate announcement late Monday morning.
“After much deliberation and with deep regret, we are therefore undertaking a reorganisation of Supermassive Games. As a result, we are entering into a period of consultation, which we anticipate will result in the loss of some of our colleagues,” wrote Supermassive.

The developer acknowledged the ongoing layoffs that continue their rampage across the industry, saying that they are working alongside their affected employees to make the process as respectful as possible.
“We’re committed to focusing our efforts on our core strengths and upcoming titles to ensure the continued sustainability of the company,” the developer concluded
While the exact amount of employees affected is unknown, prior to the announcement, a Bloomberg article alleged that Supermassive Games was set to cut 90 jobs. That is a significant cut if true, due to the developer employing 350 workers.
Supermassive Games made a name for themselves with the success of their popular interactive narrative games like Until Dawn, and The Quarry. These layoffs come at a tough time for the developer, after the recent reveal of their upcoming Dead by Daylight game Due to the layoff announcement being so new, it’s currently unknown whether any of the studios projects will be affected.
Nearly two months into 2024, the video game industry continues to be hit with layoffs, affecting over 6,000 workers.
