Earlier this year, during a Nintendo Direct, it was revealed that the cult classic, Undertale, would be releasing on the Nintendo Switch. Unfortunately, we weren’t given a date for when it would become available. That changed today, as the creator of Undertale, Toby Fox, revealed on Twitter that the Nintendo Switch version would be releasing on September 15 in Japan. In the same tweet, Fox states that details for the other regions will be “coming soon.”

At the same time, Japanese video game magazine website Famitsu, repeated the announcement. In addition, they also revealed the physical Collectors Edition for that version, which will include a 24 page art book, 2-CD soundtrack, special commentary by Toby Fox, a 14-karat gold coated music box pendant, a randomly selected book mark, and a random cloth. September 15 also happens to the third anniversary of when the game released, so while their isn’t any more information in regards to a North American date, it’s more than likely that the game will release around the same time, if not the same date.
Last year, Undertale branched out from the realm of PC and spearheaded the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita. Those versions had some differences, for example, the addition of borders and the Dog Shrine Location, as well as NPC’s with hidden dialogue. Nothing has been announced in regards to exclusive content for the Nintendo Switch at this time, but as we get closer to the release date, their will likely be more information brought to light.
Undertale originally came in 2015 for the PC, as the long time pet project of Toby Fox who developed, wrote, published, and composed the game by himself. Almost instantly, it became a worldwide phenomenon, with many critics and gamers calling it one of the greatest video games ever created. With a mix of RPG elements from the Mother/Earthbound games, and the humor of the Mario and Luigi series, Undertale‘s unique style and gameplay made for an experience that the player wouldn’t forget.
Undertale will release both physically and digitally on September 15 in Japan, hopefully with a North American date soon to follow.
