Developer Dark Curry is officially releasing Undead Citadel on PlayStation VR2 via the PlayStation Store for $29.99, according to a press release. The game is designed exclusively for virtual reality in a dark fantasy world.

That world is on full display in the official release trailer, showcasing a medieval world cloaked in ominous and dark colors; even the bright areas seem to be somewhat muted, suggesting a sense of corruption as well as danger. A number of different enemies were shown: the basic skeleton, armored warriors, and even a glimpse at a skeleton that appears capable of casting magic. The character displayed is seen wielding several different melee weapons and a bow as a ranged weapon.

Combat within the game is driven by physics, albeit a little wonky, as skeletons are seen flying with some weapon swings. Otherwise, combat is relatively weighty as weapons have a sense of heft, which is complemented by the relatively simple sound design. To experience this, players will be in the shoes of a lone warrior who will be journeying through a cursed citadel. Players will have the ability to wield swords, axes, bows, explosives, and mystical potions, which can be changed mid-battle by looting fallen enemies.

The gameplay, particularly combat actions, has almost no delay, which will be complemented by the game’s 90Hz refresh rate, allowing the world to feel more real and immersive. The haptics of the headset will also be fully taken advantage of, as each time damage is taken by the character, a pulse will be played through the headset. That pulse will add a sense of presence and adrenaline that fly under the radar but make the game complete. Adaptive triggers are also made full use of, as depending on the player’s input, greater resistance will occur in-game.

The full game will include three game modes: a story mode, a horde mode, which tests one’s ability to fight infinite waves of enemies, and an armory mode, testing allows every weapon to be tested. Currently, there’s a 10% launch discount for PS+ users to experience the game.
