Ubisoft is gearing up its video game line-up for a strong upcoming fiscal year according to Kotaku. Between the planned releases for Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and Skulls and Bones (which is currently in an unknown state of production), Ubisoft has apparently let slip that “another large game” would be releasing in the next 12 months. According to anonymous sources familiar with the company’s plans, the additional game is their planned open-world Star Wars game.
It seems as though Ubisoft is trying to get fans excited for their upcoming projects after a disappointing previous fiscal year. According to Gameworldobserver, Ubisoft sales were down 14.6% year-over-year, reaching a record operating loss of $633.51 million, which hurts even more when comparing it to its operating income of $261.17 the previous fiscal year.
Insider-Gaming reports that this open-world Star Wars title was announced back in 2021 and was slated for an early 2024 release. This recent announcement would fall in line with the 2021 news, as it would mean that the game is seemingly on schedule for release in this upcoming fiscal year, which is exactly what Ubisoft is yearning for since its last fiscal year.
It is fair to say that this still may not be completely confirmed, as no official sources have confirmed this news and Ubisoft has had a rough track record over the last year or so in turning out projects at their original projected time. The projected timeline is to release the game in March of 2024, but both Skull and Bones and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora were both slated for earlier releases, only for them to be pushed back.
Ubisoft is set to have a big summer showcase on June 12, so more details on their upcoming releases, as well as this potential open-world Star Wars game may be announced then.
