The announcement that Google was shutting down its online subscription service Stadia sent shockwaves throughout the video game industry. Many were affected, but none more so than the consumer, or in other words, the video game community. One of these companies, Ubisoft, is apparently attempting to try and soften the blow for those who purchased and played their titles on the now-defunct platform. The company has announced that anyone who bought any of their 37 titles that were available on Stadia will be able to have them once again for free on PC.
This is made possible through Ubisoft’s launcher and storefront, Ubisoft Connect. In fact, this process started over the weekend as it was reported by 9t05google that some users were seeing their titles from Stadia accounts appear in their Ubisoft ones. Ubisoft didn’t officially make the announcement of this process until this week. The actual process itself involves linking your Ubisoft Connect account to your Stadia account, in which both accounts see that you have purchased a respective Ubisoft title. At that point, it should become available to download/play in the Ubisoft account.
It’s also important to note that the eventual shutdown of Stadia has prompted Google to ensure that they would honor all refund requests of any titles and in-game purchases that were conducted on their platform. What this potentially means is that those who were refunded for a Ubisoft title, and then received said title on their Ubisoft account, essentially got the game for free. Keep in mind this isn’t a guarantee by any means, only a possible outcome due to the numbering factors of the shutdown and Ubisoft’s initiative. On top of all that, those who had subscribed to the Ubisoft Plus Multi-Access, which is the publisher’s own selective library of titles to stream and download, will receive an email with instructions on how to keep that service through Ubisoft’s website, as well as a voucher with a free month of service.
