Ubisoft Teases New Far Cry for The Game Awards

It appears a new game from Ubisoft’s long running Far Cry franchise appears to be on its way. Earlier today, the official Far Cry Twitter account would tweet out “Tune in for a worldwide reveal at #TheGameAwards” alongside a teaser trailer for the game.

The teaser suggest that the game is possibly tied in to and set after the events of this year’s Far Cry 5. The teaser opens on a landscape that bears resemblance to Far Cry 5‘s setting of Hope County, Montana.  Moments later a nuclear explosion goes off in the background as a narrator states, “None of us were ready for the end.” The teaser then goes on to describe the impacts on the world following the explosion. The teaser ends focusing on a character finding a saw blade and reloading a weapon that appears to be a combination of a buzz saw and crossbow. The narrator ends the teaser with, “We felt hope. We were wrong.” Thus, this new game appears to possibly be set in a post apocalyptic version the Far Cry 5 setting though nothing is concrete. The new game is set to come to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

It would make sense for Ubisoft to create a followup Far Cry 5. The game was the best selling game of the year before being usurped by Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and Red Dead Redemption II. Thus, The Game Awards present Ubisoft with the biggest stage to debut the new game. This new Far Cry game is set to appear alongside over 10 new game announcements at The Game Awards.  Other games set to appear at the event are a new RPG from Obsidian, BioWare’s Anthem and Dragon Age, and the possibility of the debut of the rumored Alien: Blackout.
