During the Six Invitational over the weekend, Ubisoft revealed that Rainbow Six Siege will be available for next-gen on day one with the possibility of cross-play between consoles. In addition, they also shared details on the plans for the next two years of Rainbow Six Siege which include major gameplay updates, map and Operator reworks, new events, and changes to the frequency of new Operators introduced to the game.
These changes to Years 5 and 6 will take place after the first two seasons of Year 5 which will be the same as previous seasons with two new Operators and a reworked map. The latest Operators introduced to the game are Oryx and Iana. Oryx has a dash ability that make him the fastest character in the game to either smash opponents or walls and barracades. He can also jump and grab certain open hatches. Iana can create and control a hologram. Afterwards, each season will introduce only one new Operator, a map rework, a limited-time event, and major gameplay updates. Starting with this newest season, Operation Void Edge, a battle pass will be included which offers players a new way to earn rewards.
Major gameplay updates will include fundamental updates that affects all players. These changes include expanding player agency and making players care more about the preparation and support phases in a match.
Other gameplay changes announced were adding more secondary gadgets for all Operators, implementing a ping system to enhance communication and make it easier for players who don’t use voice chat,adding an option to ban a map, and a new Reputation system that will either reward or sanction players based on their in-game behavior. The Major Operators getting reworked for Year 5 will start with Tachanka with others to follow in the seasons ahead.
Like previous seasons, Years 5 and 6 of Rainbow Six Siege will feature one major, themed in-game event per season that offers a big shift in traditional Siege gameplay. Weekend-only Arcade Playlists will be coming in the game starting with Golden Gun in Operation Void Edge. More will be availble during season 3 of Year 5.
