While the Assassin’s Creed series is taking a rest, Ubisoft seems to be pushing Watch Dogs to be their next big franchise. According to gamerant, Ubisoft Montreal is taking Watch Dogs 2 in a different direction than its predecessor. The sequel is putting a larger emphasis on multiplayer and boasts a brand new sandbox for players to hack and explore.
Animation Director Colin Graham is the narrator for the 19 minute trailer which details the game’s free-roam gameplay and multiplayer. The game incorporates a multiplayer mechanic similar to the Dark Souls games where players online can enter another player’s campaign. The mechanic depends on the player’s wanted level. When a player is attempting to avoid capture by the police, other players can choose to help or hinder their escape. The open world gameplay walkthrough trailer can be seen below:
New to this installment are drones. Gadgets such as the RC Jumper are less prone to detection by guards and can remotely hack into terminals. The game also features new items that players can hack into. Ubisoft Montreal promises that unlike the previous title, players can progress through the game without killing a single person. In contrast to Aiden Pierce, this new protagonist has a a wide variety of non lethal abilities.
In addition, there’s tech that players can hack into that they couldn’t in the previous installment. One highlight is the ability to hack into a guard’s internet history and make them appear to be an informant to the other guards. There’s also new apps that allow players to unlock content such as sidequests. These sidequests put a huge emphasis on co-op multiplayer. Ubisoft Montreal promises that the game will feature seamless cooperative play that allows players to encounter other players in the world.
Watch Dogs 2 is slated for a release on November 15th for the Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms in six separate editions.
