Ubisoft Reflections Announces a Surprise Multiplayer FPS

Reflections, a studio under the Ubisoft umbrella and the developer behind Grow Home and Grow Up, has announced new PC shooter game with a swiftly approaching release date. Atomega is a multiplayer arena shooter with a unique twist to its environment and gameplay, as players compete against one another while the laws of physics unravel around them.

Atomega is reportedly set at the end of time where “reality is rapidly dissolving and the universe is coming apart.” Players take on the role of an Exoform, an “advanced post-biological lifeform” and distant relation to humanity. Ubisoft’s description of the game reads: “In Atomega, these lifeforms compete in arenas to gain mass, either by collecting it peacefully or blasting their opponents apart. The more mass you gain, the more your lifeform will evolve along a diverse spectrum from nimble Atom to godlike Omega.” Collecting mass will allow players to rack up points, and the players’ main goal is to gain more points per round than their competitors.

Matches in Atomega are comprised of eight players facing off in ten-minute rounds. During each round players may gather mass, fight other Exoforms for mass, lose mass, and work to replenish their supply. Mass will serve more than one purpose, both earning players points to “determine the ultimate winner of the round,” while it will also “allow you to change up your strategy on the fly.”

In its post, Ubisoft described the style of Atomega by adding, “The dynamic competitive action will be suffused with the lighthearted tone characteristic of the Reflections team.” Atomega is set to release through Steam a week from the date of its announcement, on the 19th of September.

Glenn Carreau: Hi! I'm Glenn: recent college grad specializing in interactive arts and media, writer, game creator and connoisseur, pop culture junkie, and semi-professional fan-artist and blogger. In my free time, I function as an unnecessarily specific gaming encyclopedia. I also play the violin, binge crime/detective procedural shows (still not sure why), and do a large amount of digital painting. I'm probably too attached to Dragon Age, but not really inclined to do anything about it. I'm a huge fan of cosplay, foxes, the prose of Jenny Lawson, and Strong Female Characters™.
