Ubisoft Montreal Raising Funds for Nepal Earthquake Victims

Ubisoft Montreal, the studio behind Far Cry 4, is raising money to help the people whose lives have been devastated by the recent earthquake in Nepal.

For those who aren’t familiar with Far Cry 4, which was released last November, the open world shooter is set in Kyrat, a fictional country which is practically identical in every respect to Nepal. During development, the Ubisoft team went to Nepal to do extensive research in order to accurately represent it in the game.

The country has recently suffered an earthquake of biblical proportions that has killed around 5000 people and wiped out several historical monuments, and as a result Ubisoft Montreal are seeking $100,000 in donations through the Canadian Red Cross.

The donation page reads:

Earlier this week, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck the area in and around Kathmandu in Nepal, causing a huge loss of life leaving thousands injured or stranded.

Having spent the last few years working on Far Cry 4, a game heavily inspired by Nepal and its people, it is with heavy hearts that the Far Cry family pulls together to raise money for the Canadian Red Cross, who are mobilizing their traveling hospital team to Kathmandu to offer support and medical assistance.

The Far Cry team will match donations up to the first $100,000. Thanks for your generosity and please, spread the word.

So far they’ve amassed $15630.81, so there’s still work to be done to raise awareness for this drive.

Both the official Far Cry and Ubisoft Twitter pages have confirmed that this donation drive is legitimate, so if you’re in a position to donate, you absolutely should.
