Ubisoft is Bringing 60 FPS Performance Upgrades to Classic Far Cry Games

The mysterious announcement from the official Far Cry X account has confirmed that several classic entries in the Far Cry franchise are finally getting a long-awaited performance boost on modern platforms, as Far Cry 3: Classic Edition, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon Classic Edition, and Far Cry Primal will be updated to run at 60 frames per second later this week.

A follower of the account replied with a comment asking for confirmation about the cryptic post. In which the commenter received an answer from the official Far Cry X account responding with a GIF stating “that is correct.”

According to Ubisoft, the performance patches are scheduled to go live on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, and will apply when the games are played on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. For many fans, the update represents a significant improvement in playability. Both Far Cry 3: Classic Edition and Blood Dragon Classic Edition have historically been limited to 30 fps despite their re-releases for PS4 and Xbox One, leaving players longing for smoother responsiveness on today’s hardware. This update arrives after last year’s similar upgrade for Far Cry 4. Far Cry Primal, originally released in 2016, will also benefit from the same treatment, offering a more fluid experience across its prehistoric landscapes.

It’s important to note that these updates focus strictly on performance rather than visual overhauls; Ubisoft is not marketing them as full remasters, and players should not expect revamped graphics or enhanced assets beyond the frame-rate boost. Nonetheless, the move underscores Ubisoft’s growing commitment to supporting its back catalog on current-generation hardware, giving both long-time fans and new players a chance to revisit beloved classics with modern smoothness.

With this rollout, some of the Far Cry series’ most acclaimed titles will finally take full advantage of the capabilities of PS5 and Xbox Series consoles, marking a notable milestone in preserving and celebrating these influential games for years to come.
