Ubisoft Forward June 2024: Assassin’s Creed Shadows Gameplay Revealed

If you missed the Ubisoft Forward event then you may have missed the gameplay demonstration for Ubisoft’s next entry in the endless Assassin’s Creed IP, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows. Set in feudal Japan you play as a ninja assassin, which is pretty fitting for the series as they’ve typically been ninjas, just in settings that aren’t Japan. At Ubisoft Forward we saw the gameplay demonstration for Shadows and it was pretty interesting. You can see the full gameplay below.

During the 13 minute gameplay demonstration we can see that Shadows features gameplay pretty typical of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, stalking and tracking enemy targets for assassination before jumping them, though obviously this game takes place through a feudal Japanese filter, hiding in water using bamboo shoots to breathe or using classic kusarigama as a weapon. Obviously this game will draw very clear comparisons with anyone who has been playing video games lately to Sucker Punch Productions’ Ghosts of Tsushima, another game set in feudal Japan with a blend of stealth and action based gameplay.

There’s always a very interesting and innovative take on stealth with these games, so if you’ve enjoyed Assassin’s Creed games from the past decade or so you’ll probably like what you see in the Shadows game demonstration.

Derek Lairmore: I've been playing video games and writing my entire life, so naturally I decided to combine the two passions. I love video games and video game culture, as far back as I can remember I've not only played them, I've actively participated in their communities. I hope my history in this hobby and my enthusiasm for writing helps me convey news to you accurately and succinctly.
