In an open letter on the Square Enix Europe website, CEO for Square Enix in the Americas and Europe Phil Rogers confirmed a next-gen Tomb Raider sequel is coming.
I am also excited to reveal that we are well into development on a next-generation Tomb Raider sequel – something you may have heard about recently!
This really comes as no surprise; Tomb Raider sold extremely well across all major markets and earned a Metacritic score of 86.
In July, Tony Key, VP of sales and marketing at Ubisoft discussed the company’s direction in regards to franchises:
That’s what all our games are about; we won’t even start if we don’t think we can build a franchise out of it.
With how consistently the company has been churning out Assassins Creed titles, a Far Cry 4 confirmation, and their financial position, this seems like a sound business decision. It’s worked financially well for Hollywood but, as some would argue, at the expense of quality. Let’s hope that bug doesn’t infect Ubisoft.
