Morbid Metal was recently announced by Ubisoft as a third-person hack and slash lite game that will be available for early access on August 20th, 2025. A free demo is already available for the Steam Next Fest.
The official gameplay trailer shows action-packed sequences of all three characters, Flux, Ekku, and Vekta, with the ability to chain attacks between the three. A number of different abilities for each character are also shown, with strong emphasis being placed on the fact that each character’s playstyle is important for dealing with different monsters and challenges in the game. Flux appears to be a short-range and swift wielder of a katana. Ekku wields a larger glaive-like weapon that has a heavier feeling. Vekta seems to be focused on wielding more ranged weapons and abilities with an emphasis on nimbleness.
The graphical fidelity of the game is stunning and nearly photo realistic, particularly with beautiful renderings of the environment. As part of the rendering, there will be an assortment of different biomes and trials. The game also has a futuristic design for the main characters and enemies, leading to a compelling blend of natural and technological elements. Within the trailer, the narrator teases that everything experienced in the simulation is part of a simulation, hinting at the lore of the world.
According to an official Ubisoft article, Morbid Metal will allow for the swapping of characters in the middle of combat and deals with a “Devil” as part of the gameplay mechanics. The deals with the devil will allow players to customize the strengths and weaknesses of each playthrough differently. Players can experience the gameplay firsthand in the demo, which features two of the three playable characters, unique movement features, and the ability to explore the first biome that will be in the finished game.
