It’s always been a thing in the gaming community that you try to get 100% on your game as quickly as possible. People who take on that challenge are called Speed runners. Twitch streamer Coldggman took the challenge of getting 100% on Animal Crossing as quick as possible. Coldeggman did his own speed run of the game and got 100% in 22 hours, 49 minutes, which set the record for the quickest spreed run of the game. Usually. Animal Crossing takes hundreds of hours to complete, but he was able to complete it under 24 hours.
Getting 100% in Animal Crossing involves a lot of things. You have to collect every item, find all fish, fossils, bugs and gyroids, update your entire house and Tom Nook’s store, donate every item to the museum, collect all villager statues and build the town’s extra bridge.
It’s not entirely based on his skill in the game; the original Animal Crossing on the Nintendo GameCube allows you to inset passwords to unlock a lot of the extra items and make some extra cash. A lot of that record time came down to how fast he could type in the codes. That doesn’t take away from how impressive the feat is. It takes knowledge of the game to know what to do in order to complete the game in as quick a time and all props goes to Coldeggman and his incredibly speedy fingers.
The first person to speed run Animal Crossing is Twitch user 0xA101, who completed the game in 70 hours, but people have gotten faster and faster at the game, with each preceding record being cut by at least 10 hours. According to speedrun.com leaderboard for Animal Crossing, the time starts with 70 hours, and drops to 61 hours, followed by 51 hours, then 38 hours, followed the current quickest speedrun completed by Coldeggman.
There is a quicker version of speed running Animal Crossing called the “play off all debts” run, which can take as little as only 40 minutes.
