Turtle Rock Studios Ends Back 4 Blood Development

For many gamers, Back 4 Blood was bloody and thrilling trip down memory lane. Made by the same studio as the critically acclaimed Left 4 Dead, Back 4 Blood brought back the high-octane first-person shooter experience that many fans of the Left 4 Dead franchise missed. Since the game’s release in October 2021, Turtle Rock Studios had been hard at work delivering post-game content for their fans to enjoy. Unfortunately, it looks like 2023 will mark an official end to any new post-game content for the game. In an announcement on their website, Turtle Rock called the post-game development for Back 4 Blood to a close due to the development of a new game. While information on Turtle Rock’s newest project is sparse, the studio stated that it would be their “next big thing.”

“Turtle Rock Studios is actually pretty small for a studio making AAA games,” said Turtle Rock. “We don’t have quite enough folks to continue working on Back 4 Blood content while we spin up another game – yes, another game! Given this, it’s time for us to put our heads down, get back in the lab, and get to work on the next big thing.”

Back 4 Blood will not be discontinued. The studio said that the game will continue to operate and they would hang out on Reddit and Discord and all their other social media channels. Currently, the game is offered on PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium tiers and available as part of Xbox Game Pass. Since its release in 2021, the game has experienced three expansions – Tunnels of Terror, Children of the Worm, and River of Blood.
