Earlier today, Turtle Rock Studios, best known as the studio behind the hit zombie franchise Left 4 Dead, announced that they are teaming up with Warner Bros. Interactive for a new zombie shooter titled Back 4 Blood. Announced via a post on the Turtle Rock Studios forums, Back 4 Blood is set to be a “Next-gen Co-operative FPS” in the same vein as the Left 4 Dead games. Though the game is labeled as next-gen, according to the studio’s FAQ about the game, the studio is currently targeting PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One for release while other platforms “aren’t out of the question though.”
The post continues to state that the game is being “designed from the ground-up as an original, premium title and marries the best of what made the co-op zombie shooter so successful with new features and state-of-the-art technology.” According to the president of Warner Bros. Interactive, David Haddad, the game will push “the co-op zombie genre forward with innovative multiplayer gameplay.”
Back 4 Blood is set to feature both a campaign and player vs player (PvP) modes for players to experience. However, the studio stated the PvP elements of the game will not include a battle royale mode. The studio currently doesn’t known if the game will have microtransactions, but doesn’t rule out the possibility it will. Though the game will be similar to Left 4 Dead in being “able to shoot up a lot of zombies,” the studio assures there will be plenty that makes this game unique. According to the studio’s co-founder and creative director Phil Robb, the studio “wants to take all we’ve learned and push forward.”
Currently, the studio has no release date or price point in mind for Back 4 Blood, but the studio plans to keep updating the public via their official Discord. The game is considered a “hugely ambitious project,” and, according to Robb, the studio knows the game “has to stand out” because of this. The studio is currently hiring and “growing the team considerably” for development on the game, so fans can expect it will be a while before they are finally able to get their hands on the game.
