Originally released in 2009, Trine paved the way for a massive series centered on the evolving journey of three fantasy characters. Recently, the latest installment in the series developed by Frozenbyte and published by Cooldown Games, Trine 6: Together in Time was announced, promising significant additions to the standard formula and story focusing on new characters. To coincide with the announcement, a trailer was released that includes a quickly approaching release date.
Picking up on the time theming from the previous game, the trailer for Trine 6: Together in Time opens with a look at the story of the two new characters, Moira and Adrius, who have invoked the wrath of a warlock and bound themselves to the classic heroes of the series, Amadeus, Pontius, and Zoya. According to the Steam page, each of the characters will have access to unique abilities both for solving puzzles and for combat, including a way to unlock special skills for each. Using these skills will be crucial as the game’s platforming elements are woven together with the puzzles and co-op gameplay, forcing players to be able to think of solutions and execute them alongside their team.
The trailer shows off a multitude of challenges, including combat amidst small platforms, controlling a floating platform, and even a pong-style challenge using the playable characters. To overcome these, the trailer also shows off a few of the abilities that players can use, such as levitating objects, creating movable blocks, and a time slow ability that all characters will be able to access. In addition to the core challenges, there will also be hidden paths with unlockable secrets to find.
New characters and deeper mechanics are a big change for a series with as many installments as Trine. The story alludes to dark secrets that these new characters are keeping, giving players something to unravel when Trine 6: Together in Time releases on September 17th, 2026.
