After dazzling gamers in 2021 with its initial reveal, and then wowing us with even more gameplay this past December, Trek to Yomi is finally set to release this year. Digital Devolver has unveiled the curtain on the launch date, and it’s very soon! Trek to Yomi will officially launch on May 5 and will be available on multiple home consoles as well as PC. Digital Devolver also released a brand new extended gameplay trailer that clocks in at a whopping 15 minutes, giving us a huge glimpse at what we can expect when we get our hands on this title.
In the trailer we see the protagonist, a swordsman known as Hiroki, travel from town to town all while taking down enemy bandits. We see him slice his foes with extreme precision as well as saving the villagers of the towns he’s visiting. The game evokes old Japanese films styles such as the famous directed titles from Kurosawa and the long running franchise Zatoichi the Blind Swordsman. The atmosphere and the combat all combine for an aesthetically pleasing view, and that’s exactly what Flying Wild Hog are going for here.
Even though we’re still a month away from the release date, this is already looking like one of the best indie releases of 2022. It’s beautiful cinematic presentation combined with the stylish combat and excellent storytelling, as well as the classical timepiece music makes us very excited to play this. Thankfully we won’t have to wait much longer. Trek to Yomi will officially launch on May 5 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/Series S, and PC through Steam. The game will also be available on the Xbox Game Pass when it releases.
