Trailer Released for Social Media Horror Game: Unfollow

Unfollow is an upcoming first-person horror game, developed by Serafini Productions, focusing on social issues with media. This title will be the influencer marketing agency’s first step into game development. The game includes social media influencers like Akidearest, Barbascura X, Elisa True Crime, and Kin Ryan. The game involves following around the protagonist Anne while avoiding a creature that follows her. Players will have to learn about Anne’s “labyrinth of her guilt.” Anne takes the reason for being a social media influencer from the perspective of “being so famous” that people won’t ignore her.

The trailer was released on their website, not detailing too much of the game. The Steam page details that there will be a single-player mode and a streamer mode. Although it is unclear what the streamer mode is for. The developers state that there will be different versions of the game, “Currently, there are two versions of the game – the International Version and the Italian Version. The featured online personalities in the cast change accordingly.”

Sigmund Freud’s book Civilization and Its Discontents makes its appearance in Unfollow to highlight the effects of social media. In Youtuber, IGP’s, video, the game states, “Outlining the concept of communal living as a system that, originating the shared need to counter threats to human survival, inevitability ends up placing major limits on the natural drive of the individual.”

“I feel like this [the demo] is so short and sweet and it kind of drove home the point. It is a well produced-high quality experience… I mean for the most part as an experience it was pretty good. That was jarring and kind of impactful. I definitely felt for the character the little bit that we know about her,” states IGP.

Unfollow does not have an official release date, however, developers state that the game will be released in Q2 of 2023. The game is also in Beta Demo mode on Steam. The game will be out on Steam, Xbox, Playstation, and Nintendo Switch.
