Bandai Namco’s new roguelite game, Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree, players adventure the world as Towa and her eight guardians with the goal of saving Shinju Village. The game is slated for a September 19, 2025 release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Nintendo Switch. The game will support solo and co-op gaming, with co-op being available both locally and online.
In Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree, players will depart for missions as Towa with two guardians. Each guardian undertakes a role: One will utilize the power of Tsurugi, the sacred sword, and the other will utilize Kagura, the magical staff. Players can choose their adventure companions from eight different guardians. The 2D isometric style point of view of the rougelite will look familiar to those who are fans of the Hades franchise, though Towa and the Guardians brings its own charm in the art style and combat animations.
In the Gameplay Overview video on YouTube, seen above, Towa states that she has the powers to turn back time, allowing her and her guardians to continue to challenge the final boss, Magatsu, until they see victory. The new story trailer, below, shows the special attacks of several guardians along with their voicelines, and hints at the possibility of treachery and backstabbing between the guardians. Or perhaps sacrifice! With a heavy emphasis on bringing out the best in everyone to reach their goal of defeating Magatsu, Towa and the Guardians sets itself up to be a charming roguelite, with its pleasant art and engaging combat.
A consumer demo for Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree has been available since August 18, 2025, and is available on all consoles and PC through Steam. In the demo, players are able to explore Shinju Village and undertake several missions within the village. Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree is currently available for pre-order on all consoles and PC through Steam, which will include a pre-order bonus.
