Canadian indie developer Juicy Beast, best known for Flash-based platformer Knightmare Tower, announced plans to release their four player multiplayer action game Toto Temple on the OUYA console. The version to be released on the OUYA, an Android OS based console designed for ease of game development and flexibility in order to provide an outlet for independent game studios, is known as Toto Temple Deluxe and plans to include a number of additional levels and features not present in the first edition of the game.
Toto Temple came about as the result of a three-day development project during the Toronto Game Jam, a video game design competition, in 2013. The multiplayer game centers around players competing for possession of a magical goat which periodically grants its owner points. Other players can attack the goat carrier in order to steal it, causing it to lay eggs containing coins worth bonus points that can be collected by the attacker or other players attempting to go for the goat. Toto Temple Deluxe comes with several different maps, each of which has its own host of environmental hazards and special features players can use in their quest for victory. Certain maps also contain a variety of power ups which can be collected to help the player steal the goat or protect it once they do.
In addition its signature multiplayer keep away contests, Toto Temple Deluxe also plans to introduce a team battle mode as well as single-player challenges to keep players entertained in the absence of rival goat thieves. The multiplayer game modes will also feature an automatic balancing system, granting bonuses such as additional points and power ups to new players in order to keep the playing field level with more veteran gamers.
Toto Temple Deluxe will be released on July 24, 2014 exclusively for the OUYA console. No price has yet been set for the game. Juicy Beast has not indicated any plans to bring the deluxe edition of the game to PCs, although a Toto Temple Deluxe release for PCs or an option to download the deluxe content for the original game may be in the works.
