Total War: Warhammer Officially Confirmed

The Creative Assembly have put out a Total War game for almost every conceivable time period and region in human warfare up till the the first World War, so it behooves one to wonder where else they can take the series. Lo and behold, as a result of an accidental leak, we now know that the next Total War will take place in the brutal fantasy world of Warhammer.

Word of a Warhammer Total War game began floating about when CA signed a deal with Games Workshop in December 2012 that entailed the creation of several games based on the company’s franchises. No specific titles were revealed at the time, but thanks to a user on the official Total War forums, CA’s next project has been shown to take place in the Warhammer Fantasy series.

The leak occurred when the fan received his copy of The Art of Total War, an artbook covering the visual style of the Total War games, earlier than its planned January 23 release date. Within the artbook was an interview with CA’s creative director Mike Simpson, who said:

Multiplayer has never been Total War‘s strong point in the past, and that’s something we’re looking to radically change with Total War: ARENA. For most strategy games, multiplayer is almost all of the experience or, at the very least, a sizeable chunk of it. We’re also experimenting with this in the mobile space, with Total War: KINGDOM, and taking the series to a fantasy setting with Total War: WARHAMMER.

CA and their publisher Sega are likely to be bombarded with questions about this upcoming Total War game as a result of the leak, so expect further details in the coming weeks.

Kerwin Tsang: Kerwin has been a gamer for almost as long as he's been alive, ever since he received a Sega Mega Drive in 1989. Having graduated to the upper echelons of PC gaming, he now boasts a number of major gaming accomplishments. These include getting through all three Deus Ex games without killing anyone, clocking in over 700 hours of gameplay time in Skyrim without ever finishing the main story, and nearly shattering every bone in his hand from punching the wall when his soldiers in XCOM missed a shot with 95% chance to hit.
