Tony Hawk Pro Skater Documentary Being Made

Currently in the works is an actual documentary about the hit skateboarding video game series Tony Hawk Pro Skater, called Pretending I’m SupermanIt was previously getting money via crowdfunding last month. Ultimately they did not reach their $75,000 goal; they only got $17,409, which is 23 percent of the goal. Fortunately for Tony Hawk Pro Skater fans will still be able to see the movie. The official Twitter for the documentary sent out a tweet of gratitude with a statement to follow.

“Our plan was never to entirely rely on an Indiegogo campaign,” the open letter states. “If we could have received the full sum, the process of making the documentary may have gone faster, but we are in it for the long or short haul regardless. Multiple sponsors have shown great interest and because of that we’ll be able to continue.”

It’s not unusual for crowdfunding campaign to receive help from other developers after the campaign. Crowdfunded games such as Mighty No. 9 and Bloodstained all received help from publishers after their successful campaigns. Even Citizens of Earth received help from a publisher despite not reaching their goal, so hope is not lost.

Pretending I’m Superman aims to cover the entire series history, tackling subjects from Tony Hawk originally pitching the series to the rise and fall of the popular skateboarding franchise. It will also explore what made the sport of skateboarding Ollie itself to the top in the late 1990s to the early 2000s.

The documentary’s Indiegogo page said that the funds would go to sections like pre-production, shooting and music licensing, but since they did not reach their goal, it is unsure how that money is being used. PCGamer reached out to producer Ralph D’Amato about where the money will go and if they are still accepting donations, but haven’t heard anything back yet.

Bryan Ingram: My name is Bryan. I just graduated from High Point University with a degree in Journalism. I'm 25 and writing has always been a part of my life. I'm a big Pokémon fan, so I'l spend a lot of my time playing that. Other than that, I love sports, particularly the Charlotte Hornets and the Carolina Panthers. No matter how bad the team is, I will always rep them.
