Nintendo has again surprised fans by porting a AAA title to the Switch and Switch with almost no prior warning. This time, the definitive edition of Tomb Raider, the first game of the Survivor Trilogy originally published in 2014, has become available for play on the go. The Switch versions of the game were handled by Aspyr, a developer well known for porting beloved titles. This shocking release reinforces the recent trend of the Switch 2 adapting more games than ever before to Nintendo consoles, an exciting prospect for many fans.

Most of the information regarding the port to the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 can be found on the Tomb Raider website. Special attention was paid to make the experience of survival adventure to the new systems. Players will be able to interact with each of the game’s core features, including fast-paced combat, exploration, and equipment management.

The release includes both the base version of the game as well as the downloadable content released later for the game. This content includes six outfits, eight multiplayer maps, and four multiplayer characters, which also confirms the presence of the game’s eight-player online multiplayer mode. The definitive edition also comes with the comic, Tomb Raider: The Beginning and the mini-art book Tomb Raider: The Art of Survival. Finally, players will have a greater look at the development of the game with the “Final Hours of Tomb Raider” series.

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition will be available for $20, with a 10% discount available through November 24th and an additional 10% discount for those who own previous remasters from the Tomb Raider series. This release has made many fans hopeful that Nintendo will make later entries in the Tomb Raider series available on their consoles as well. With a trailer for the second season the Netflix series Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft releasing on the same day, this could indicate a surge in popularity for the classic video game franchise.
