Tomb Raider: Catalyst was officially announced in December of 2025, alongside Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis. At the time of the reveal, Tomb Raider: Catalyst was shooting for a 2027 release, but it seems that the game is expected to release somewhere within 2028. The Game Business posted an interview between Chris Dring and Jeffrey Gattis, Amazon’s head of gaming, about Amazon Luna, Amazon’s upcoming game streaming platform. In this interview, Gattis made a mention on Tomb Raider: Catalyst, saying the following:
We have obviously announced the two Tomb Raider titles. Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis comes February 12 of next year, and then we’ll follow on in 2028 with the next one.
Whether this is an unintentional slip of the tongue, or a way of announcing the delay in a quiet manner, it seems to be confirmation that Tomb Raider: Catalyst is expected to release in 2028. This news has likely left fans of the Tomb Raider series disappointed, as the next big installment of the game is still a long time coming if its release is two years from now.
It’s been about eight years since the last installment within the series, that being Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Fans of the franchise have been waiting patiently for the game, but their patience will still be rewarded, it seems. The silver lining behind the news of this delay is that Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is still on course for its release date of February 12th of 2027. Old fans will be getting a remake of the original 1996 game in a more modern engine, and newer fans will be able to play Lara Croft’s first adventure for themselves.
Although Tomb Raider fans won’t be getting two games within the same year, they’re likely to play both games when they do come out. The eight-year dry spell of no new Tomb Raider games will be resolved soon, with the arrival of Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, as well as the recently delayed Tomb Raider: Catalyst. All that the fans have to do is wait just a bit longer.
