Tokyo Game Show 2022 Will be an In-Person Event

The Computer Entertainment Suppliers Association (CESA) in cooperation with Nikkei Business Publications Inc. has announced that the 2022 iteration of the Tokyo Game Show will be an in-person event. This will mark the first time in three years and the first time since the beginning of the COVID-19 Pandemic that the Tokyo Game Show will allow a full in-person attendance. It is slated to run through Sept. 15 – 18, at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan. This year’s tagline is “Nothing Stops Gaming” but they will also have special digital features for those who prefer to stay at home.

Similar to previous years, the first two days will be only for special guests while the other two will be open for the public to enjoy. As we mentioned earlier, The Tokyo Game Show will retain one of the major facets of last year’s event, the TGS Virtual Reality area which also includes a virtual reality tour of the event. The event will still have a major focus for those participating in-person and for the love of video games, as is exemplified by the organizers in the post. “Let’s open the gate to the forefront of games. Give courage and enthusiasm to everyone. Show your love of games to each other. Let’s dive into the heart of game craze.”

The two previous events, the 2020 and 2021 iterations were replaced with an online-only event, albeit with some exceptions in the 2021 version. The 2022 event is one of the first to completely drop the online-only aspect and make an attempt to return to the regular format that everyone is used to. It’ll be interesting to see what other organizers will do for their respective events, especially with E3 2022, which at this point still doesn’t have any official plans scheduled for any days. This is especially concerning as the event generally takes place in June, only a few months away from now.
