Today, game developer Respawn announced they will be releasing all new downloadable content for what is considered one of the best games of the year, Titanfall 2. Dubbed Angel City’s Most Wanted, the DLC will feature a new Angel City map, a new weapon called the Wingman Elite Pistol, a new Pilot Execution (‘Inner Pieces’, allowing players to phase into an unsuspecting victim), and six all new Titan kits. According to Kotaku, the DLC will come out on November 30th and it will be the first of many free DLC’s to come to the game.
Throughout the last few years, however, downloadable content has been fracturing the online multiplayer community; those who have bought the multiplayer DLC are forced to play on their own. Although releasing these paid DLCs can be quite lucrative for developers and publishers, Respawn is promising to not fall down this path of fracturing the online community so they’ve opted to release the Angel City DLC update for free, along with all the game’s future DLC’s. In their blog posting (posted here), Respawn stated the following:
All maps, modes, weapons – anything that has effect on gameplay – will be free for all players that bought Titanfall 2. We believe that in order to maintain a healthy community we shouldn’t be segmenting players behind paywalls for these things.
However, Respawn will allow an in-game store that will have micro transactions. Respawn insists, though, that they won’t affect gameplay in any way and will only be cosmetic features; these include new gun skins, camouflage, and Titan variants. To avoid randomized loot crates, Respawn hopes to allow gamers to buy specifically what they want.
In addition to these cosmetic changes, the new DLC will also feature double experience point weekends and it will offer in game recognition for top players. The developer’s blog post also states that they’re coming up with new “game mode twists,” stating
Changing things up and trying out new ways to play is a big part of how we work here at Respawn. We’re carrying that philosophy over to multiplayer with semi-regular events that will change up rule sets on certain games, giving them a “twist” to how you might normally play them. Changes like these force players (and ourselves) to look at the game differently and try some things you may never have tried before.
Titanfall 2’s new DLC will be out next week on November 30th and it will be a free update.
