According to Polygon, Titanfall 2’s beta will arrive and it will give players the opportunity to test the game’s core online competitive multiplayer’s mechanics in return it will allow developer Respawn the ability to stress test its servers. With that being said, players should know it will only be coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Titanfall fans playing on Windows PC will have to wait for the full game in October.
Respawn’s founder Vince Zampella confirmed that the decision to skip Titanfall 2’s multiplayer tech test on PC was due to two factors. Respawn is still working on supporting various PC hardware configurations and it doesn’t want dataminers to search in places they shouldn’t for spoilers of the single-player campaign.
We’re still making a lot of tweaks and changes to the renderer, the game, and effects so we haven’t run the game through the hardware compatibility lab yet to detect and handle a large variety of hardware — video cards, CPUs etc. Quite frankly, we aren’t ready to deal with that yet, we are still making the game better. We also haven’t done enough work to fully support our ‘Min Spec’ on PC yet. So, currently the PC game isn’t as easy to throw out for testing as the console is, because of the additional variables and configurations that we need to support.
Zampella is being very cautious about the beta as this will be Titanfall’s first single player story. By Vince’s track record it should be a good one. It only makes sense that he would play it close to the chest and ensure that those pesky diggers won’t spoil the long anticipated campaign.
Our wonderfully curious PC players have proven in the past that they will dig out anything they can, and there’s a risk that they could spoil some of our single player.
While this may be disappointing to those gamers on PC Zampella said Respawn recognizes this fact but this allows them to focus on the real reason they are Beta testing in the first place. Quite simply they want to make a smooth and stable game at launch and with this test they should have all the data they need to do just that.
Titanfall 2 descends from orbit Oct. 28.
