Titanfall 2 Updated for the First Time in Years, Major Resurgence in the Playerbase

Those who pay attention to Steamcharts’ record of active playerbases may be shocked to see an old, and long-thought-forgotten, name among the rising stars: Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall 2. Indeed, the 7-year-old Titanfall 2 had 3,248 peak players just last month in August to very shocking 27,547 players at the time of writing as viewed on Steamcharts, a staggeringly massive increase.

The cause for this insane bump in activity is twofold, firstly, Titanfall 2 was always a popular underground game with good word-of-mouth, especially among the mecha enthusiasts for its unique premise, satisfying gameplay, and incredibly well-written single-player story mode, so its recently ended sale at a 90% discount, would obviously be appealing to those who were on the fence about giving the game a try.

But Titanfall 2’s recent sale is only half of the reason the game has seen an incredible revival, as of September 9th the game was patched for the first time in years. Titanfall 2 has had an unfortunate history with its online experience, it was notorious for its DDOS attacks and unstable servers, and its matchmaking was inconsistent. But with the September 9th patch it seems that Respawn has fixed the majority of the issues the game’s online experience had, as well as adding new features such as a Private Match option. These changes, coupled with as a cryptic message within the patch notes that point towards the release dates of Titanfall, Titanfall 2, and Apex Legends as pointed out by Titanfall YouTuber Iniquity, give the playerbase hope for a potential sequel on the horizon.

Titanfall 2 fans have long agonized over future of the franchise, considering the aforementioned online problems plaguing the game, the prioritization of Apex Legends at Respawn Entertainment, leading into the eventual cancellation of Titanfall 2’s sequel altogether, but their patience has finally paid off. It’s unknown what spurred Respawn Entertainment’s sudden influx of Titanfall 2 changes, as speculated on IGN this could be a sign that Titanfall will crossover with Apex Legends in some way, but whatever the reason, one thing’s for sure: Titanfall 2 fans old and new alike will be keeping those new servers active for the foreseeable future. Titanfall 2 is available for purchase on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
