With the clock ticking down to time’s up, how much can be done? For the past four years, White Paper Games has been hard at work creating a heavy narrative based game that goes through non-linear events, one where every second counts that lead to uncovering the truth. Having first announced it back in July, The Occupation is a thriller mixed with heavy investigation. With several approaches to solving the case on hand, The Occupation is everything a real-life thriller might have:
Set the scene in 1987 Britain, in the background of a fictional terrorist attack that starts up an anti-immigration movement. Players take on the role of a journalist who is investigating the immigrant banning government company known as the Bowman Carson group. The goal? Write the biggest, baddest, most truthful and eye-opening article that will blow the Bowman Carson group out of the water. But of course, time isn’t on your side.
The Occupation is actually played out over a certain amount of time. Each minute is a real-time minute, so every action counts as what you do. The player can use the character’s watch to set up reminders and alarms to remind them of things they need to do so they aren’t hanging around in places where they are definitely not meant to be in. Like, for instance, the vents, or an office of someone you’re trying to do more digging on.
One of the other features that White Paper Games talks about on the game’s Steam page is how much each choice will have a specific outcome or how each choice has a different gameplay advantage or disadvantage. This includes things such as how to enter a room; through the vent, through the window, turning off all the power, so on and so forth.
The Occupation is currently available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One for $29.99 USD. Sneak around and uncover the truth to take down a skeevy entity.
